All About Love Cynster Novels Stephanie Laurens 9780380812011 Books

I’ve read a total of 5 Stephanie Laurens books and I decided that they are more or less all the same and not worth the money. I find this particular book rather bland and very annoying. The plot of “All about love” drags on. The heroine’s character seems bloodless to me and I could never connect with her. The heroine is the local magistrate’s daughter, very spoiled, and the village do-gooder, a type I thoroughly detest. You know the type; the kind who thinks she knows everything and is entitled to tell everyone else what to do and under no circumstance is she subjected to the dictates of others. She is delusional of her own abilities and judgment. The whole bit with the scandalous letters seems pretty lame. First, the heroine could have just told the hero that there were personal letters she needed to retrieve without betraying anyone. Second, since the letters aren’t even the heroine’s, why she let herself be bullied into looking for them in the first place is beyond me. Her friend Mary-Ann is a twit and an annoying character. The heroine is obtuse and not overly endowed in the intelligence department. Why else would she traipse around alone right after being shot at? Not only that, after the second murder attempt on her, she still snuck out after midnight to break into the Manor in order to look for the letters. And how could she refuse to let on what she knows about the murder because of keeping idiotic Mary-Ann’s secret? Why was Laurens thinking of when she created this particularly inane heroine? Mind you, this goes on way past the half-way mark. Then there is a lot of the heroine playing the 5-year old princess role: nose up in the air, chin up in the air, and so on. Quite juvenile. Along with inanity like this, there are pages and pages and pages of kissing and sex. To sum it up, a stupid, inane premise along with an unappealing do not a good book make.

This is a great series! So glad that I discovered it. So far all have had a great story line.
Good Grief! The entire Cynster series is wonderful. So much fun. Stephanie writes well and her male characters are fabulously dominate. More "man" than I could ever handle. And her female characters are better driven, not so lacking in communication or afraid to speak up, where they are always secretly withholding information.

What drives me crazy with other authors is female characters who won't speak up, for God Sake! What is it with Regency women? My 21st Century female mentality struggles with their inability to speak up, talk, communicate their fears.

Wish I had these books in high school. So educational. What stupid asses my girlfriends and I were.
Romance infused adventure in the early 1800 England. Racy, but then the Cynster novels are. If you don't like explicit details, this is not a book for you.
This is the first full-length novel by Stephanie Laurens that I've read, and it certainly won't be the last. "All About Love" is the story of "Lucifer" Cynster, a supposed rake who has retired to the country to visit an old friend. He is shocked to find that his friend has very recently been murdered when he arrives in the charming village of Colyton. He also immediately meets Phyllida, a beautiful young woman who is also the town busybody and clearly knows more that she's telling about the murder. Despite their mutual mistrust, the two are surprised by their attraction to one another and begin to work together to solve the murder. Before he met Phyllida, Lucifer had no intention of ever falling in love and marrying. Likewise, Phyllida was quite content with her life in the village and was certain that she will never marry. Most of the story is about how the two become comfortable with one another and the idea of falling in love and making a lifetime commitment.
Despite a couple of nitpicks - I really hate it when heroines insist upon putting themselves in danger just to prove their "independence" and the suspects were all so similar that I had a hard time telling them apart - this was one of the best books I've read recently. Even though the plot was not terribly complicated or original (in my opinion, not really a flaw in a good romance), Laurens kept me interested all the way through. The growing relationship between the two leads was particularly well written and even surprisingly realistic. These two people didn't lay eyes on one another and immediately fall in love. They met, were attracted to one another, and let the attraction develop into something deeper. Laurens also writes great love scenes - hot but still sweet. This is the 6th novel in a series about the Bar Cynster, but don't worry if you haven't read the previous books. I haven't and it didn't make one bit of difference. You can bet I'll read the other 5 and when I'm done, I'll really enjoy picking this book back up and reading the epilogue where the whole family meets at a summer gathering.
I dont think this is a spoiler alert. If it is im sorry. I have been reading this series, Im like 7 or 8 books in now. There is a recurring theme in all these books, to the point that Im not even interested in them anymore.

boy vows to never marry (or just marry for convienence sake)
boy meets girl
girl is indifferent to boy
boy and girl have a shared interest/mystery to solve
boy decides to marry girl
girl is resistant
boy and girl have lots of sex (pages and pages of sex)(i end up flipping ahead, its all the same really)
boy and girl finally marry and live happily ever after

And so far it always seems that girl runs straight into boy somehow. that seems to be how they all meet.
We know each Cynster must meet his match but oh the journey. Love the determined male mind at work and final defeat. Do they really think to escape their family destiny? Each story great stand alone read but series just icing on cake. Would give 5 stars but 3 certain love scenes becoming so predictable in a story that doesn't need it to be complete.
